Navarino Grace Trail® Shiocton, Wisconsin

A Forest Sanctuary for Reflection, Wellness, and Belonging

Tucked within the heart of the Navarino Nature Center, the Navarino Grace Trail® offers a meaningful experience rooted in nature, community, and cultural awareness. Surrounded by wildlife, winding trails, and quiet woodlands, this Grace Trail invites visitors into a space for healing, mindfulness, and connection.

Rooted in nature and community wisdom

Throughout the trail, beautifully engraved stone boulder signs appear in three languages—Menominee (an endangered Algonquian language spoken by the historic Menominee people), Spanish, and English—honoring both local heritage and inclusivity. Physical trail signs, handcrafted Leopold benches, and footbridges are thoughtfully placed to invite stillness and reflection.

Each GRACE question is intentionally tied to its surroundings, offering deeper meaning through connection with the land and local environment.

Designed to meet local needs

This trail is a reflection of the Navarino community’s values—cultural preservation, intergenerational engagement, wellness, and education. It is used year-round by students, families, educators, and organizations to support learning, connection, and well-being.

The project was led by community leader Janis “Matty” Mathison and brought to life by a generous network of volunteers, donors, and grants. Together, they transformed this forest space into a powerful tool for personal growth and collective care.

“It’s a chance to walk through nature, reflect on life, and have meaningful conversations with others—not just small talk, but real discussions about what truly matters.”
